Summer School & Outside Coursework

D204 Online Summer School Registration is open now until May 1st. For more information and/or to register please visit the 204 Summer School website.

Students & families should speak with their school counselor before planning for any summer school courses to verify how summer school may impact their next year schedule, progress towards graduation and post-secondary goals. Students are encouraged to utilize the summer school opportunities available within District 204.

Coursework taken outside of District 204

Per the District 204 Course Catalog and Planning Guide https://ipsd.eduk8.me/definitions-and-procedures/

“In addition to seven credits taken in District 204 each year, students may take outside coursework for graduation requirements and electives. Prior approval from the student’s high school guidance department is required for all coursework in the following categories: correspondence, online, or summer courses. A maximum of 2.0 credits of outside coursework will be accepted during four years in high school. Grades earned in pre-approved courses taken outside of the district will be noted on the student’s transcript and be included in the GPA. These courses will not be eligible for honors weighting, even if they are designated as honors or AP courses.

High school level courses taken between middle school and high school will not be counted for high school credit. These courses may be considered for course placement. Any potential change in placement requires prior approval from the high school principal or designee. Students must report proposed summer school activities to the high school principal/designee prior to May 31st. Upon completion of the summer work, the school may conduct a local assessment (end-of-course assessment) of the student’s skill level which will guide course placement.

The Waubonsie Valley Guidance Department will evaluate coursework for pre-approval based on a variety of factors including: the provider’s educational accreditation, format/delivery of instruction, and course prerequisites & grade level requirements as outlined in the district course catalog (https://ipsd.eduk8.me/).

Please see your school counselor or alpha house for an Outside Coursework Pre-Approval Form.

Semester II Spring 2022 Final Exam Schedule

Semester II Final Exams will take place on Friday, May 27th – Wednesday, June 1st.  As in years past, finals will be administered over the course of three days. WV strongly discourages pre-planned absences during final exams. Therefore, students are expected to be in attendance and take their final exams on their regularly scheduled exam date. Please note: students are not allowed to take final exams early.

*Senior Finals will take place on May 23 and May 24.

The purpose of final exams is to provide a summative experience for our students that assesses their understanding of content and development of skills throughout the semester.  Here are some important details:

• Teachers will inform students, in advance, of the final exam format for each class.

• Some courses will opt for a summative experience that is not a single period assessment.

• Students are not required to attend their study hall or their lunch period on final exam days Final Exam Schedule – (9th – 11th)
